and Miscellaneous Stuff

I know you’ve seen similar photos of the world on the other side of my front yard, but I took this one to share in case you’ve looked at the Weather Network’s description of our current conditions. This isn’t freezing fog. 🙂

It does look like darker clouds in the southwest over Maine though.

I don’t claim to be busy working on the house all day every day, still I usually get something done. On Monday it was cold, and very wet, and extremely windy, so I declared it a holiday. I was settled in my recliner with a new book, surrounded by snoring animals, and had a fresh cup of coffee. Then somebody knocked on the door.

It was Michael.

We spent the next two hours, outside in the elements, taking measurements so the Government could have a diagram (to scale) of my house and yard. The good news is that this means I’m one step closer to actually getting the new Fusion septic system.

I’m a few small projects away from finishing in the bathroom. I want it done soon, but the weather and temperature have to cooperate.

Speaking of temperature – this was the coldest morning so far in my residency. It was -2.2C (28F) but, in spite of the fact that I shut down the wood burner early yesterday and didn’t use it all night, the temperature in the house was 13.6C (55.4F). This tells me that there is better insulation in the house than I feared, which is a great relief.

The Lobster fishing season opens next Tuesday and I’m still determined to get down to the harbour for the Blessing of the Fleet. This means I’m also getting familiar with my new camera. I hope I can pull this off.

When not being productive I have been catching up on my reading. If you like fantasy you have to check out a new author and his first novel: Kings of the Wyld by Nicholas Eames is fantastic. I haven’t enjoyed anything that much for a long time.

If  you’re feeling particularly indulgent, and you are like me, you might be interested in knowing that you can order Montreal bagels online. Real ones – not those kaiser rolls shaped like a bagel you get in grocery stores. My excuse is that I have this new freezer and I need to put something in it. You can come up with your own. 🙂
