Electric!

Today, in addition to the requisite shot of whatever boat decided to visit this morning, I’ll give you a better image of one of the lilac hedges (wet because it’s raining), and a couple of photos of my largest crop. I wish I could figure out a way to monetize them.

I’m told that not only will I be able to see whales & seals & harbour porpoises, but also huge leaping tuna offshore. Cool!

So just after I posted yesterday I got a call that the Electricians were about to arrive. Yay!

It’s only 10 months late but the insurance company needs a letter that says my house is up to code. Also I needed the panel switched from fuses to breakers. To take advantage of them being here anyway I had them add a generator panel … just in case I decide to get one. They also installed a plug for it on the outside wall.

I did a bit of research while they were messing about downstairs and found an option that not only starts with a push button but also remotely. From inside the house. While the blizzard is blowing outside.

If I invest in a generator it’ll be that one.

The day went very much like this:

  • Electrician: We’re removing a lot of these power boxes. Do you want them?
  • Me: No!
  • Electrician: Will you ever be hooking that oil furnace up again?
  • Me: Hell no!
  • Electrician: I hit my head on that hanging baseboard heater. Do you want them taken down?
  • Me: Oh please!

In the space of 5 days I’ve gotten the major portion of the plumbing project done and now the wiring. I’m feeling very positive about things.

This afternoon the guy from the power company is coming to assess the house from an insulation/power smart point of view.

Once he makes his recommendations we can undertake Project Insulation. Then he comes back, reassesses the house, takes away the receipts, and the power company sends me money I can put towards the roof.

Now if I could just get the lawn mowed. πŸ™‚

  1. Fantastic progress!!!!! And yes – I agree with the remote-starter generator. πŸ™‚ When we have to turn OURS on, I send Jim out to the garage πŸ™‚ Apparently someone was here yesterday while I was out – my walls are lined with paper detailing where everything is situated (cabinets, stove, refrigerator, etc.). Jim and I had fun wandering about reading the delineations. I *think* today the electrician comes by.
Where is the lilac hedge? I got out my pics of the day we arrived (I really should send them to you so you can see the phenomenal progress – not sure you took any yourself that day) and I do not see a hedge anywhere. Behind the garage?
I so envy you the sight of the water. One day….. πŸ™‚

    1. Face the house behind me – the row in the pic is between the house to the right and my property, then there are hedges on two sides of the house behind me (including the back of my yard) and then across the road, the house to the left, hedges around 3 sides of their property.

  2. too funny. I have almost NONE of the views you described. πŸ™‚ I do get the hedge behind your property because I took a pile of the garbage pile at the end of the driveway. I didn’t take any views to the right of your house. I have behind (garage and swing set, driveway), in front, and the road/driveway side of the house.
