Wild Kingdom

I got a call that an otter was playing in the pond by my place so I went to take a few pics. It wasn’t a certainty that I’d find the thing – I’m notorious for not seeing what everybody else does.

What I forgot is that a pair of geese have been scouting the area for weeks looking for a place to settle down and raise their family.

They chose this same pond. To say they are not welcoming to the otter would be an understatement.

He was easy to find. They not only pointed him out to me they were yelling very loudly at him and the world about their new “neighbour from hell”.

I know the interwebs think that otters are cute little fur balls. The babies are adorable. Adults the size of the Loch Ness Monster, on the other hand, are terrifying predators.

The geese are justifiably concerned about the health and safety of their young. The parents are large birds but I don’t know which team has the better odds. I’m really hoping I don’t have to find out.

I keep telling people I don’t want the Wild Kingdom in my home. This refers to my cats playing with their pet mouse.

I’m going to have to extend my demilitarized zone. Either all the local wildlife is going to learn to get along or I’m going to be stuck just taking photos of gulls. sigh
