It’s Now Been 4 Years

Fours years ago today Ahuva and I drove from northern New Brunswick to St. Stephen. I had an appointment at 1:00 pm and I was 20 minutes late. That might not sound responsible of me but I will remind you that we had just driven from a suburb of Vancouver BC. The straight line distance is 4,143 km (2,574 miles). The driving distance is closer to 6,000 km (3,750 miles). I don’t think 20 minutes is that big a deal. πŸ™‚

My appointment was with a lawyer and a large pile of paperwork. I bought a house. A house on the opposite side of the Country, on an Island I had never visited.

I didn’t know anybody out here and now I can’t imagine a life without them or this place. Life is good.

The traditional gift for a 4th Anniversary is (they say) fruit or flowers. Well the only flowers I can offer are some wild ones from the side of the road.

I read a blog post that said in 4 years I should be able to become a carpenter, get a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitzu, acquire a 1400 ELO chess rating, have a conversation about the depth of the ocean with a 3 year old I conceived 4 years ago, learn to code just about anything, learn to speak Mandarin, read 12-16 books on finance and meditation and self-improvement, and/or become an intermediate guitar player.

For a variety of reasons I haven’t managed any of them. I’m still trying to get a good shot of the sunsets in front of my house. πŸ™‚

  1. Four years. wow. we proved all the nay-sayers wrong as well. you WEREN’T an axe murderer, we didn’t fight irrevocably and never speak to each other again. The only ones permanently damaged were the cats, and I’m not sure they were 100% balanced to begin with. πŸ™‚ TTTT – I don’t even remember that we were 20 minutes late – I was so impressed with us being there to begin with. πŸ™‚ Didn’t we go and have a great lunch after that, with a view of the bay? One of these days I’ll be able to cross the border w/o a 24-hour proof of health and I’ll see all the updates to the house, meet the new family member, and put fear-of-car-trip into the cats. πŸ™‚ Congratulations on your home ownership!

  2. Okay, I went back to re-read my post about that day. We were an hour late but that’s because we had to see the World’s Biggest Axe: https://wordpress.com/post/ahuva18.com/11415. And I forgot that we stayed in St. George AFTER you owned the house. πŸ™‚ We had a good time on that trip, didn’t we? It’s kind of like childbirth – you tend to forget the pain and discomfort and remember the good parts. *laughing* Tell the cats I said that.

    1. LOL great – an hour. Still think we did pretty good. Yeah, we didn’t make it to the Island til the next day. Fergus is on the desk reading this and says that cats focus on the bad stuff and the whole trip was hell.
      sigh
