Wet Dreams

The top photo is of the ferry from Deer Island to L’etete (pronounced “leteete”) on the mainland. The rest are the usual views of salmon cages in Harbour de Lute and Eastport Maine. The weather has changed on us again – winds are from the northwest and temperatures have fallen. The highs today will be below 65F (18C) and tomorrow morning it will be below 50F (10C).

I mentioned that we were expecting some rain. There is a large stock pot sitting on my back porch (long story) which was empty the night the rain was to come. I measured yesterday and there is over 4 inches of water in it now – not exactly a scientific method but it sure felt like we had at least that much.

I told you about going upriver to do a major food shopping trip last week and the resulting disappointment. Yesterday a friend and I went to Saint John in an attempt to get all the things I was missing. That was a mistake and it’s mostly (as usual) my own fault.

We went to the Walmart Supercenter (spelled the American way because, reasons). I think in my mind I assume it will be like the one in Calais which is well priced, well organized, usually well stocked, and full of just about anything you might be looking for. The one in Saint John is none of those things. It was a very depressing experience.

The Island has been extremely quiet this week. There are a few tourists but 95% of the locals seem to have gone on vacation. I assume this was “take the kids for some fun time before school starts” trips. I support these plans because there are very few noisy 4-wheelers charging around the roads. 🙂

Fish enjoyed the 10 hour trip yesterday but he still doesn’t like the City. He took a couple of quick naps when he felt we wouldn’t be doing anything interesting. After one of them my companion said that the dog had taken a pee on him. I looked over and said “that isn’t urine”. It took a while walking around a cemetery to resolve that particular situation. He really has to get neutered. sigh
