Spring?

To paraphrase an old joke: Whoever is praying for rain – Please Stop!

I haven’t been posting mostly because I haven’t been wandering around taking photos. The bitter cold and high winds made it intolerable and the recent weather changes have not improved the situation. It’s been wet. I mean Biblical/Post-Apocalyptical-type deluge wet.

The next shot is of a large stock pot I keep on my back porch for various reasons. I emptied it 6 days ago.

Staying warm and dry inside the house has been my preferred choice of activity. 🙂 I’ve been a little lucky with my sunporch roof – it doesn’t leak unless there’s a lot of wind at the same time. Given our location that, of course, is always a possibility.

Still, many of those who suffered damage during the big storm in December now have running water in their living and bedrooms.

It is so wet (and this will only mean something to those familiar with the place) that water is cascading down the Glen Severn steps. A friend sent me the next photo of the partially washed out foot bridge in Herring Cove Park.

The staff at Roosevelt Park were called back to work a month early to deal with all the clean-up required after the big storm. There was a lot done even before that. The Park invited locals to haul away some of the downed trees for firewood and Jonathan brought me half a cord.

This was a bonus I’ll need next year. Operating under the theory that current weather will be the new normal, I’ve decided I’ll need more than 6 cords of wood for next winter.

I am getting a delivery in July from the people who brought me the 6 I’ve used this year. They wanted to bring it this month until I pointed out there’s no ferry. There won’t be one until (according to current scuttlebutt) late June and they aren’t bonded to drive through Maine.

If I felt able to go get some half decent photos, I would have posted about the return of the geese over a month ago (which seemed early) and the flocks of robins agitating my cats.

I would have briefly discussed the upcoming solar eclipse: we’re about 100 miles off the zone of complete coverage (I think). Still it will be a good show if the weather cooperates. I’ll be able to set up in my front yard and enjoy the view.

I would also have mentioned getting a visit from Johnny one day saying I needed to get hold of Stanley. One of the local diver’s boats was sinking bow first at Jacksons. Not his outboard – his big boat, and he wasn’t here. A few of the other fishermen took care of it.

I’m sorry I’ve been so quiet for so long. With any luck Mother Nature will take some valium and calm down soon. Strangely (given the cold etc.,) I saw my first indoor mosquito this week. As you can see, Fergus wasn’t interested in dealing with it. 🙂
